“无与伦比”这个词从字面上看是中性的，其中任何一个字都没有明显的褒贬。这里的伦就是不伦不类的伦。但是个中国人就知道，“无与伦比”四个字凑在一起就是个绝顶褒义词，表达了无上的完美程度。那么如果将无与伦比翻译成英文，又该对应那些单词呢？

我印象中，Sinead O’conner 有一首歌被翻译成“无与伦比”，原歌名是《nothing compares》。

我又用百度词典搜索“无与伦比”，得到的结果如下：

想深入了解 exceptional 这个词，要追溯它的原型；其中名词形式 exception 的涵义是“例外;例外的人(或事物)”，几乎没有“优秀的×××”的意思；而 except 是个介词，意思为更加纯粹的“除…之外”。其中的“优秀的”这方面涵义是 exceptional 作为形容词衍生出来的部分，个人感觉语气不是很强烈。

因此，将 exceptional 翻译成“无与伦比”，是不是“史无前例”的呢？
